Songwriting and writing workshops/retreats for women held in the San Juan Islands, Wash.

Please complete and submit this form to and send a check or money order, made out to songandword , to: songandword , P.O. Box 860, Shaw Island WA 98286. The fee is for instruction, accommodation, transportation to and from the ferry, and five meals Saturday and Sunday.

Early registration is recommended. Registration is complete when your check is received. Workshops are limited to 8 to 10 participants and are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. We will start a waiting list for any workshop that is full when you register. A retreat directly after a workshop is limited to two people. The postmark date will determine participants’ registration number. We will confirm receipt of your check, tell you if you are on a waiting list, and provide any other information needed for your specific workshop.

Please understand that we are located in the country, with wooded acreage, rocky shoreline and uneven ground. A rural area requires an extra measure of care and alertness. While we have exercised due care and caution in terms of safety of the home and site, participants assume all responsibility for their physical well-being, bring clothing appropriate for the weather (our workshops are held rain or shine), and will provide their own health insurance.

Most workshops do not require a great deal of walking. If you have limited mobility, let us know in advance and we will make every effort to accommodate your needs. Pets can not be accommodated; please leave them at home. You will be asked to sign a health/risk and hold-harmless waiver before the course begins.

It’s disappointing to have to cancel participation in a workshop because of a change of plans or an emergency, but it is particularly hard on Maggie and Sharon to try to fill a vacancy once the bulk of the marketing work has been done. With that in mind, here is our policy: If you cancel 21 days or more before the start of the workshop, we will refund your money (minus $100) only if we can fill your space from a waiting list. If you cancel less than 21 days before the start of a workshop, you will not receive a refund.

Songandword is not responsible for booked plane reservations if a workshop is cancelled for any reason. Please check with your airline for its cancellation policy. Participants might consider purchasing traveler’s insurance.
